Montmija Merlot
IGP Pays d'Oc
It is the Occitan name (mount of the middle in French) of the hill on which is leaned Ribaute the Vialade family village. My father, Jean - a visionary of his time - planted his vineyard there, cultivated it in the tradition of Organic Agriculture from the 1970 's onwards. Montmija is the benchmark when it comes to organic wine. It is the authentic organic brand which gives its name to a collection of southern and global grape varieties expressive of the Mediterranean. In these grape varieties I am looking for fruitness, the lightly scented florescence of the garrigue scrubland. These are wines of style where we discover the immensity of the Corbières the beauty of the Pays Cathare, land of history, land of freedom.
Merlot
16-18°C
The vineyards are located between the Cévennes and the Camargue, in the heart of the largest organic wine region. They enjoy a hot, dry climate, which promotes the development of aroma in the grapes during ripening, producing expressive wines.
The vineyards are mechanised and trained using the espalier system. Technical expertise and strict plot management yield grapes at peak ripeness. The varietal is farmed organically and certified by a European organization.
Harvesting is done entirely by machine and the grapes are entirely destemmed before entering the tanks. Fermentation then takes place at controlled temperatures 25 to 30°C for 20 days with daily pumping over. Particular care is taken to restrict inputs. Wild yeast is used, the wines are not fined and the amount of SO2 is limited.
Cold, roast meats, grills, grilled vegetables and cheeses but also works well with starters.
Garnet with purple highlights. Aromas of red fruits, including raspberries and blackberries. Light woody notes well integrated. The palate is pleasant and supple with a good level of concentration.
