Vignes Royales
AOP Saint-Chinian
Sedimentary shale soils are rare in the Languedoc they can be found in the upper reaches of Fitou, at Castelmaure, and on the fine Cru Berlou terroir. The aromas associated with Carignan and Syrah are intensified by these black, volcanic, and geologically ancient soils. Berlou is already mentioned in the 14th century: the 1386 A.D. deeds of Cesse non establish the existence of the Berlou settlement. This Châtellenie was attached to the French Crown. A «registry» emanating from the king authorises the planting of vines in the royal forest of the Albières. It is therefore a decree recognising the «Royal Vines» of Berlou which are present to you here.
