Réserve Saint-Julien du Domaine Madone
IGP Pays d'Oc
Réserve Saint-Julien is the signature name for a selection of varietals by Domaine La Madone made by winegrower Philippe Cazes with the medieval city of Carcassonne for a backdrop. Our families are bound by a strong friendship that dates back to the 1970s when parents Jean Vialade and André Cazes played an active role in defending regional causes. These two devoted Occitans – both of them legendary charismatic figures locally – were like brothers and their deep-rooted friendship was as jovial as it was loyal. André’s sons are independent wine growers. Jean’s daughter, Claude, is at the helm of one of the most prominent wine companies in Occitania. The continued friendship of the next generation is illustrated in this great cuvée. Réserve Saint-Julien is a partnership between Philippe and our winemakers. Domaines Auriol markets this range so that you can fully enjoy these fresh, supple, aromatic and compelling wine for pleasure.
Marselan Merlot
16°C
The vineyards are located between Arzens and Sainte-Eulalie in the Malepère area. The soils are clay-limestone and the vineyard sites are mainly on hillsides set in a rolling landscape. The climate is Mediterranean, Atlantic and Pyrenean, imparting the wines a special kind of freshness.
The main varieties grown on the estate are Merlot, Cinsault and Sauvignon, along with Marselan and Cabernet Franc.
The grapes are picked by machine based on strict vineyard site selection taking into account the ripeness of each plot. They are entirely destemmed before fermentation which takes place in lined concrete tanks. Particular attention is paid to fermentation temperatures and pumping over in order to produce fine tannins and lots of fruitiness.
This wine can be enjoyed with smocked pork meats, roast and grilled meats, oven-baked vegetables and mild cheeses.
Garnet hue with purple-blue tints. Nose of fresh cherry and strawberry, blackberry and spice accompanied by a faint herbal framework typical of the grape variety. Lovely palate with fine tannins. Drink preferably in the first years following bottling, will mature well for 3 to 4 years.
