Le Bistro Montmija
Vin de France
Montmija has been an organic benchmark since the 1970s, when patriarch and visionary Jean Vialade was the driving force behind the conversion of the family's vineyard in Ribaute to organic. Bistro Montmija is the fruity, thirst-quenching version of this label made in the spirit of a delicate, subtle wine for pleasure. The pictures are a reference to C. Bot's painting of Claude Vialade in Ribaute in her early years as a winemaker. These 'everyday' labels require special care in order to create a disconnect between this great discovery and its price. This is our challenge! The ‘Bistro' label involves subscribing to an ethos where everyone gets to ndulge in organic wines. It is about convincing you that organic wines turn the enjoyment of wine into an ethical approach based on an economy that respects the world and its equilibrium.
Gold - Challenge Millésime Bio 2023
Carignan Merlot
16-18°C
The vines for this label are located along the Mediterranean coastline. The typical Mediterranean climate facilitates organic farming. The soils date from the Tertiary or Quaternary periods and are formed mainly of alluvium and clay-limestone.
The vineyard here is well balanced and located on hillsides. It was restructured 30 years ago and turned into large blocks, which allows it to be farmed rationally. The Carignan vines are grown as bush vines whilst the Merlot is cordon-trained using two wires. Vineyard management is organically certified. Yields are no higher than 70 hl/ha.
The organically farmed grapes are harvested by machine then destemmed on arrival at the winery. Pre-fermentation cold soaking develops aromas of red berry fruits. Fermentation at low temperatures (20°C) then ensues, imbuing the wine with typical characters and fruitiness. Sweetness is ‘adjusted’ with 3 to 5g/liter before bottling.
The perfect accompaniement for meals, barbecues, cold cuts or cheeses.
Fruity with a lovely brillant ruby. This wine is very supple and has a fairly intense nose showing amylic aromas of fresh red fruits.
