Montmija Syrah Rouge
IGP Pays d'Oc
It is the Occitan name (mount of the middle in French) of the hill on which is leaned Ribaute the Vialade family village. My father, Jean - a visionary of his time - planted his vineyard there, cultivated it in the tradition of Organic Agriculture from the 1970 's onwards. Montmija is the benchmark when it comes to organic wine. It is the authentic organic brand which gives its name to a collection of southern and global grape varieties expressive of the Mediterranean. In these grape varieties I am looking for fruitness, the lightly scented florescence of the garrigue scrubland. These are wines of style where we discover the immensity of the Corbières the beauty of the Pays Cathare, land of history, land of freedom.
Syrah
16-18°C
The vineyards enjoy a Mediterranean climate, hot and dry which promotes the development of aromas in the grapes during ripening, producing expressive wines.
The vineyards trained using the espalier system. Technical expertise and strict plot management yield grapes at peak ripeness. The varietal i sfarmed organically and certified by a European organisation.
Harvesting is done partly by machine, partly by hand. Before the grapes enter the tanks, they are entirely destemmed. Fermentation lasts for 25 to 30 days at controlled temperatures around 25°C with regular and frequent pumping over. Particular care is taken to restrict inputs. Wild yeast is used, the wines are not fined and the amount of SO2 is limited.
