Montmija Signature
AOP Corbières
It was in 1945 that my family acquired the status of “proprietor’. My grandfather Clément, who belonged to the first generation of students from the Ecoles de l’Agriculture, was in charge of several Corbières domaines: Donneuve, Pech-Latt… During the Second World War he rescued some Resistance fighters, hiding them on the various properties he managed. At the end of the war, thank him, the resistance fighters gave him the 5000 francs with which he subsequently bought his first vineyards, in Ribaute. With plenty of work on hand he joined the village Wine Cooperative. My Father Jean presided over the cooperative for 40 years, initiating in Europe. He was a pioneer in the cause of the AOP’s, and bottling at the property. He developed the family vineyard which is enclosed and protected by the scrub-covered hill called Montmija. I don’t know if you’ll appreciate this story, but this where mine began. The bottle you are about to open is no mere glass container, it represents this History of Men.

Mourvèdre Grenache Carignan Syrah
18°C
The vineyards are located between the villages of Ribaute and Durban, all of them within the Corbières appellation area. The main vineyard, Montmija, boasts characteristic schist and clay-limestone soils. The climate is typically Mediterranean.
The vineyards are farmed organically and certified. Management techniques are adapted to each grape variety. Yields are no higher than 40 hl per hectare.
The wine is a blend of the finest plots of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Some of the grapes are picked by hand, others by machine. Daily pumping over at controlled temperatures is used during the winemaking process and maceration lasts between 25 and 30 days. There is no oak maturation. Some of the Syrah is fermented as whole clusters. The Mourvèdre, Grenache and Carignan are destemmed.
The perfect companion for the entire meal, with grilled or slow cooked meats, poultry and game, or alternatively with dark chocolate cakes and of course cheese.
This rich, elegant and concentrated wine boasts fruit and spice characters. Complex and robust, it offers up lovely scents of the surrounding garrigue.
