2022 Vintage Presentation

2022 Vintage Presentation

Dear wine friends,

We all have in mind the news reports, images and statements about the intense heat that marked the year 2022, along with its consequences, particularly wildfires. However, for viticulture in the Mediterranean region and across the vast Languedoc vineyard, all the conditions are coming together for a promising vintage. To date, the outlook is very positive.

Here is an overview:

- The spring was particularly favourable, warm and with good rainfall. We had not experienced such conditions since 2011. At the end of July, the Aude region benefited from a welcome storm bringing around 40 mm of rain.
- Soil nutrition levels are therefore excellent. The rainfall has brought freshness and revived microbial life. The vines have been well nourished thanks to cool and moist soils.

(That said, we do not overlook the ongoing issue of soil depletion. Microbial life tends to decline due to drought, although this has not been the case in 2022.)

Overall, the vines have coped well with the heat. The core quality of the vintage has not been affected and is in fact very promising. The vines are strong, healthy, and vibrant.
The sanitary condition is excellent. The high pressure from powdery mildew is now behind us, and organic vineyards have not suffered from downy mildew. Instances of stress, whether due to drought or disease, remain isolated or are the result of vineyard management issues.
Yields appear to be satisfactory. The grapes are present in good quantity, with even and well-formed bunches. Veraison and ripening have been uniform.

Other regional characteristics:
The Southern Rhône has suffered from drought, although mid-August storms helped improve the situation by refreshing the soils. The South-West vineyards, which are less influenced by Mediterranean or oceanic climates, have also experienced difficulties due to warm soil conditions.

Organic vineyards:
No downy mildew and an excellent overall sanitary state across the region.

Tasting of the first musts:
We are now identifying trends for Chardonnay and Pinot varieties, and we continue to taste new musts every day. They are aromatic and fruity. Acidity levels are moderate, but the tasting experience is very pleasant, with soft and silky tannins. At this stage, we are very satisfied with the results.

We remain at your disposal.
Your trust is our strength.

Wishing you a wonderful end of summer and all the best.
